World Bank and IFAS Executive Committee signs Agreement

The meeting with Lilia Burunciuc, the Regional Director for the Central Asia Region at the World Bank, who arrived in Ashgabat on a working visit, took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. The parties discussed the priority aspects of cooperation.

As is known, Turkmenistan chairs over the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea in 2017-2019. At present, the IFAS works on the IV Action Program to assist the countries of the Aral Sea Basin (ASBP-4)

The World Bank expressed the willingness to participate in the development of the Action Program that specifies the issues of providing international expert and consultative services and financial assistance for the organization of regional meetings and events as well as while drafting the Central Asian Water Strategy.

During the meeting, he World Bank and IFAS Executive Committee signed the Agreement on the Additional financing of the project on modernization of hydrometeorological services in Central Asia.

The heads and specialists of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, the World Bank delegation, the representatives of the IFAS member states and media attended the meeting.
