World Taekwondo signs deal to move headquarters to Goyang

World Taekwondo has confirmed that it plans to open new headquarters in Goyang City in 2025.

The governing body will make a short journey across South Korean capital Seoul from its current base in Jung-gu. A Memorandum of Understanding was signed today at Goyang City Hall to rubber-stamp the re-location.

Goyang will provide World Taekwondo with a "state-of-the-art" new building which will have office space, a taekwondo museum, training facilities and other amenities. It will be split across 10 floors with 2025 the target date for completion.

The new headquarters will be located just 40 minutes away from Incheon International Airport, the main entry point to South Korea. "We are delighted to sign this MoU with the city of Goyang," said World Taekwondo President Chungwon Choue.

"We are grateful to Goyang Mayor Lee Jae-joon whose affection for taekwondo played a big role in this move.

"Our new headquarters will significantly increase our operational capacity and allow us to better serve our global taekwondo family. "Moreover, it will provide an accessible and convenient location for us to host guests, training camps and more."

Lee gave a presentation about the proposed move at a World Taekwondo Council meeting last month.

"We thank President Choue and World Taekwondo for choosing Goyang City as the city for the relocation of the federation's headquarters," he said.

The 2022 World Taekwondo Poomsae Championships were awarded to Goyang in May.
