30.08.2017 | President of Turkmenistan and Prime Minister of Georgia discussed the prospects for cooperation

In Ashgabat, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov had a meeting with the Prime Minister of Georgia Giorgi Kvirikashvili who arrived on an official visit to our country.Welcoming the Head of the Georgian Government, the Head of the state noted with satisfaction the traditionally friendly nature of the intergovernmental dialogue, successfully developing both in bilateral and multilateral formats, within authoritative international organizations and structures.

Thanking for the hospitable welcome, the guest conveyed cordial greetings from the President of Georgia Giorgi Margvelashvili to the Turkmen leader.As it was emphasized, the Georgian side attaches great importance to expanding fruitful cooperation with Turkmenistan, taking into account the existing potential and prospects.

At the same time, it was noted that Georgia highly appreciates the initiative position of our country in issues of international cooperation, which meets the goals of common prosperity.

Expressing warm greetings to his Georgian counterpart, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted that neutral Turkmenistan is always open for constructive interaction with all interested foreign partners and, including with Georgia, the defining principles of relations with which are equality, mutual respect, commonality or similar views on a number of key aspects of the global agenda.

In the course of the meeting, a thorough exchange of views took place on the priority areas of the Turkmen-Georgian cooperation, the agreements reached in recent years at the highest level laid the reliable basis for development of qualitatively new frontiers.

Focusing on the opportunities for building mutually beneficial trade and economic relations, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili noted the significant role of the Intergovernmental Turkmen-Georgian Commission, which is designed to increase the volume of bilateral trade turnover, stimulate investment activity and contacts through business structures, development of new joint projects in various industries.

The implementation issues of the existing diverse potential of the partnership were put on the agenda of the regular, third meeting of this Commission in Ashgabat, for participation in which a representative delegation of Georgia has arrived in the Turkmen capital.

Energy and transport were identified topical areas of cooperation among actual directions.In this connection, it was stressed that Georgia fully supports the initiatives of the President of Turkmenistan in ensuring reliable and stable transit of energy resources and the formation of the international transport and communication infrastructure as integral factors to global sustainable development.

As noted, the advantageous geographic location of the two states and the common interests of the parties predetermine favorable prospects for combining efforts to create transit and transport corridors with the use of the Caspian and Black Sea regions’ potentials, which will lead to new broad opportunities for interregional integration and access to world markets, will serve intensification of trade- economic ties throughout the Eurasian space.

At the same time, the Head of the state and his guest spoke in favor of deepening traditional cooperation in the humanitarian sphere, including in line of science, education and culture, as well as sports and tourism, for joint activities and exchange of experience in these fields.

Taking this opportunity, the Prime Minister of Georgia congratulated the Turkmen leader on the magnificent organization of the forthcoming Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in Ashgabat.As noted, such events are certainly not limited to regional scales, contributing to the strengthening of friendly international relations, mutual understanding and trust between states and peoples in a global dimension.

At the end of the meeting, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili expressed confidence in the further development of mutually beneficial Turkmen-Georgian cooperation.
