A total of 1,400 hectares of land have been allocated for spring potato planting in the Lebap velayat, during 2026—declared the Year of “Independent Neutral Turkmenistan - Homeland of Purposeful Winged Horses.” The velayat aims to harvest 19,600 tons of potatoes from these fields.
In the current agricultural season, thorough preparation across all etraps where spring potatoes were planted, the selection of high-yielding and well-tested seed varieties adapted to local soil and climatic conditions, and sowing carried out in accordance with proper agronomic standards have ensured uniform crop emergence across all planted areas.
Farmers in Lebap velayat are striving to harvest 14 tons of potatoes per hectare. At present, they are carefully tending this important food crop by carrying out timely irrigation, inter-row cultivation, and fertilization with both organic and mineral nutrients.
These measures are contributing to healthy plant growth and increased yields.A significant contribution to the velayat’s annual potato harvest is made by the Charjev etrap. This spring, potatoes were planted on 380 hectares there, with an expected harvest of 5,320 tons.
In Danev etrap, 4,200 tons are expected from 300 hectares.Meanwhile, in Sayat etrap and Kerki etrap, harvests of 2,800 and 2,100 tons are anticipated from 200 and 150 hectares, respectively.
In addition, 900 hectares of land in the eastern region of the country have been allocated this year for spring onion cultivation.Farmers aim to achieve yields of 25 tons per hectare and produce a total of 22,500 tons of onions during the season.
It is worth noting that, thanks to well-organized work in all etraps and proper crop care, a strong onion harvest is taking shape.Particularly noteworthy are the vegetable growers of Dovletli and Charjev etraps.
This season, they planted spring onions on 260 and 250 hectares, respectively, with targets of harvesting 6,500 and 6,250 tons. The intensive work currently underway in the potato and onion fields, where harvesting will begin in the near future, inspires confidence that the farmers of the Lebap velayat will successfully achieve their production goals.
