A female patient tells about the quarantine conditions in the Ashgabat in-patient medical facility hospital

In early July, 2020 one of the buildings which had been previously owned by “Polymex” located on Gogol street was promptly converted into an in-patient medical facility.

A woman who underwent a 10 day pneumonia treatment in the medical facility told a correspondent “Chronicles of Turkmenistan” about the conditions in the hospital.

We first got blood tests, mouth and nasal swabs taken. Visitors are denied access. We were given meals three times a day at the expense of the hospital and relatives did not have to bring food from home.

As regards treatment and medical procedures, we were administered general toning pills, including calcium gluconate, Arbidol, Azithromycin and Riboxin injections and Vitamin C.Moreover, we were recommended to take antiviral medication Сycloferon, but were warned that the medication is not available in the hospital or anywhere in Ashgabat.

Patients frequently had their temperature taken.Healthcare practitioners advised us to make nasal “tampons” from сotton wool soaked in vodka.

Medical doctors are wearing special protective equipment. Both medical staff and patients are not allowed to go home. Family members hand out food and other essentials through security guards and patients were not allowed to see their loved ones. One of the nurses said that they were barred from leaving the premises within a month.

None of the patients who I shared the ward with tested positive for coronavirus or at least we were not informed of such cases and none of them were transferred to a different facility. Another woman and I were released from hospital 10 days later, – the woman said.
