A man in the US spent three weeks in a coma due to a mosquito bite

An incredible story happened to 55-year-old American Joe Casey, who found himself on the brink of life and death after a seemingly ordinary mosquito bite. The victim spent three weeks in a coma and completely lost the ability to walk and talk after waking up, “MIR 24” reports with reference to WCAX.

The fatal encounter with the insect occurred in August, when the man's health deteriorated sharply. As it turned out later, the mosquito was a carrier of three dangerous diseases at once: Eastern equine encephalitis, West Nile fever, and St. Louis encephalitis.

The triple infection had severely compromised Casey's immune system, causing a dangerous buildup of fluid in his skull, putting critical pressure on his brain.

The surviving American faces a long road to recovery about two and a half months of rehabilitation. Having survived such a serious ordeal, Joe Casey addressed his compatriots with an important warning: “Do not underestimate the size of the enemy”.
