A meeting of the Human Rights Dialogue between Turkmenistan and the EU was held in Brussels

The delegation of Turkmenistan led by the director of the Institute of State, Law and Democracy of Turkmenistan Yagmyr Nuryev visited Brussels to participate in the next meeting of the Human Rights Dialogue between Turkmenistan and the European Union, the press service of the Turkmen Foreign Ministry reports.

The delegation of Turkmenistan included the Ombudsman, employees of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Justice. The Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Belgium also joined the meeting via video link.

The European Union was represented at the meeting by the Central Asia Division of the European External Action Service, representatives of the Directorate General for International Partnerships of the European Commission, the Office of the EU Special Representative for Central Asia, and also via video link by the head of the EU Delegation to Turkmenistan.

During the meeting, the parties reviewed the National Action Plan for Human Rights in Turkmenistan for 2021-2025, focusing on strengthening the legal system and increasing accountability in the field of human rights. A separate topic of the negotiations was the activities of the Ombudsman in Turkmenistan for 2023.

The Turkmen side informed about the ongoing reforms to ensure freedom of movement and religion, as well as the registration of new public organizations.
