On 12 March, 2021 President Gubanguly Berdymukhammedov signed the resolution to approve job responsibilities of the Deputy Chairperson of Turkmenistan’s Cabinet of Ministers and the resolution pertaining to job responsibilities of the department staff.
The document was signed with a view of executing the previous resolution issued by the head of state as of 11 February 2021 “On introducing the position of the Deputy Chairperson of Turkmenistan’s Cabinet of Ministers”.
In addition, the President signed the resolution pertaining to the Supreme Control Chamber.
The texts of these resolutions and the list of responsibilities of the new Deputy Prime Minister have not been published.
Let us recall that on 11 February Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov introduced a new position in the Cabinet of Ministers and appointed his son Serdar Berdymukhammedov Deputy Prime Minister, a member of the Security Council and the Chairperson of the Supreme Control Chamber.
Serdar’s responsibilities are not clearly defined. The President has reported that the newly-appointed Deputy Prime Minister will be in charge of introducing the digital system and innovation technologies in all areas of industry, the governance system as well as exercising control.
Deputy Prime Minister overseeing transportation, communications and industry was previously responsible for IT-related issues. Bairamgeldi Ovezov currently holds this post.
Over the past month Serdar was charged with opening of greenhouses, overseeing the construction of manufacturing facilities, setting up the video surveillance at the state border and designing medals for Central Asia Shepherd Dogs and dog breeders.
