A police officer assaults journalist Soltan Achilova in Ashgabat

On 12 August, 2020 a police officer assaulted a 70 year old journalist Soltan Achilova, who was making video footage in one of the school fairs opened in Ashgabat this week.

The police officers spotted a camera in the correspondent’s hands and grabbed her by the hand in a rude manner. Her threatened to take her to a police department.

What are you filming here? It is forbidden! Are you against the policy pursued by the authorities?! the law enforcement officer yelled.

Achilova managed to escape and leave the bazaar.

Starting from Sunday, 9 August, 2020 school fairs have been opened in Ashgabat. At the same time, retail store are still closed because of precautionary and prevention measures.

The tents of school markets have been installed in front of the shopping mall “Gulistan” located on Magtymguly avenue, near Tekin bazaar.
