An eye witness told a correspondent of “Chronicles of Turkmenistan” that in the morning of 13 September, 2021 about thirty women congregated in front of the building of Turkmenistan’s government in Ashgabat.
They were immediately approached by the guards who requested that the women disperse. The women said they did not intend to make noise or make a row – they only wanted to inform the authorities of the problems they are facing.
Eventually, an official came out to talk to those who gathered. He did not introduce himself or gave his job title but listened to the women, who told him about their dire financial situation, unemployment, unaffordable prices for groceries and a reduction in ration packs sold at subsidized prices.
For instance, there are no eggs and flour in a pack and the limit of one or two drumsticks per household applies.
The official promised to relay the women’s concerns to the Turkmen high-ranking officials.
Following this initiative or for other reasons, two days later, on 15 and 16 September Ashgabat residents were supplied with increased ration packs at subsidized prices. For instance, the allowance included 2 kilos of fresh chicken drumsticks.
This came as a surprise for residents of “Parakhat” and other districts of the city, including Choganly, who had been previously warned that the ration packs would not be delivered again before October.
This time shop assistants informed that in order to apply for a ration pack, a copy of the a household register, a passport and a birth certificate of all family members registered in the apartment need to be presented.
A delivery person explained that the new rules will help streamline the delivery process and make it more regular.According to him, newborn kids will be also taken into account when a food ration is calculated.
At the same time, because of the newly-introduced requirements, tenants renting apartments and those who did not have enough time to fill out paperwork for their property might be negatively affected.
They will forfeit their right to subsidized groceries. The post About 30 women congregated in front of the government building in Ashgabat to tell about their problems first appeared on Chronicles of Turkmenistan.
