Turkish Airlines plans to begin flights to Australia in March 2024. Within the framework of the marketing campaign for the launch of the new route, the airline is in talks to collaborate with Australian film star Margot Robbie. Chairman of the Board of Turkish Airlines Ahmet Bolat said that the actress will visit Türkiye a week before the first flight to get acquainted with the culture and attractions of the country.
Türkiye has long sought to establish direct connections with Australia. In 2021, the CEO of Istanbul Airport said that obtaining an Australian route for Turkish Airlines was a “high priority”.
At present time, Australia is the only continent to which Türkiye does not fly. The airline and airport believe that Istanbul will become a convenient hub for travelers from Oceania to a variety of destinations in Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas.
