Ashgabat cultural playbill: exhibitions, film screenings, and theatre performances

A rich cultural program awaits residents and guests of the capital this coming weekend.The country’s museums are hosting themed exhibitions dedicated to Defenders of the Fatherland Day.

Meanwhile, the Ashgabat Cinema is concluding a week of the Indian Film Festival.An exhibition dedicated to Defenders of the Fatherland Day, celebrated on January 27, has been organized at the State Museum of the State Cultural Center of Turkmenistan.

The exhibition, titled “The Dignity of the Motherland Is High, Its Defense Is a Sacred Duty,” features cold weapons, archival photographs, and other materials that tell the story of heroic chapters in the country’s history.

On January 24 at 11:00, the Ashgabat Cinema will host a screening of the film “English Vinglish” as part of the Indian Film Festival.The 2012 comedy-drama tells the story of a modest housewife who has a poor command of the English language.

After finding herself in New York one day, the heroine secretly enrolls in intensive language courses in order to gain self-confidence, boost her self-esteem, and prove that she is a person in her own right—not just a housewife.

The Turkmen State Puppet Theatre has prepared an instructive performance for young audiences titled “Mobil dünýäsi” directed by Kerim Ataev.The fairy-tale story follows a boy named Tagan who becomes overly absorbed in gadgets and accidentally finds himself in a fantastical “mobile world.” His unusual adventures help him understand the value of real-life communication and return to a normal life.
