Quoting the CEO of “Belaruskaliy” Ivan Golovatiy the Belarus information agency tut.by reports that “Belgorkhimprom” has refused to build the second potassium plant in Turkmenistan. “Belaruskaliy” is the majority shareholder of “Belgorkhimprom”.
“We have not submitted the application”, Ivan Golovatiy told journalists on 7 September by highlighting that the company was discontent with the conditions proposed by the authorities of Turkmenistan”.
On 31 March 2017, after repeated failure to meet the deadline because of reciprocal claims “Belgorkhimprom” commissioned the Garlyk mining and refining facility in Turkmenistan, a potassium plant with a capacity of 1,4 million tons of potassium chloride a year.Immediately after that the authorities of Turkmenistan announced the plans to build the second potassium plant in Karabil.
Let us recall that on 22 April the leader of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko stated that he had been invited to build the second mining and refining facility, the tender for which had been announced on 17 April.
On 10 May Belarus said that Turkmenistan did not settle accounts for the construction of the Garlyk mining and refining facility.
The initial deadline for the tender to build the second mining and refining facility was 26 June, which was later postponed until 17 July.
As of May this year, the mining and refining facility was operating only at 7% of the projected capacity.
