The builders have completed the construction work, installation of power generation units and switchgear, and commissioning works at a new 432MW gas turbine power plant in the Charjev etrap of Turkmenistan’s Lebap velayat. Japanese Sumitomo Corporation has prepared the facility for launch, official media of Turkmenistan reported on Friday.

The project was financed by the Japanese Bank for International Cooperation through a loan agreement with the State Bank for Foreign Economic Affairs of Turkmenistan, according to the report.

The commissioning of the new state power plant will to contribute to the creation of necessary technical conditions for uninterrupted power supply to the economy of the eastern region of the country, create new jobs, and become the main source of electricity that will be exported to neighboring countries, the Turkmen media notes.

The power plant will become the tenth power generation facility built in the country, with a total capacity of 6,511MW.

The opening of a new gas turbine power plant will be timed to coincide with the upcoming 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan's independence.
