Lebap power plant is ready for launch in Turkmenistan

Construction works, installation of power plants, switchgear, and commissioning works have been completed at the new gas turbine power plant in Lebap province, Turkmenistan which is prepared for launch by the Japanese company Sumitomo Corporation, "Turkmenistan: The Golden Age" reported.

Each of the three gas turbine units of Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems has a capacity of 144 MW.

The launch of the power plant will be another step towards ensuring that the total volume of electricity produced annually in Turkmenistan will reach 33 billion KWh over the next 7 years.

The launch of a new power plant with a capacity of 432 MW will create the necessary technical conditions for uninterrupted power supply to the eastern region of the country, create new jobs, and become the main source of electricity export.

The power plant will become the tenth generating facility in the country. The total capacity of all power plants is 6,511 MW.

The project was financed by a Japanese bank through a loan agreement with the State Bank for Foreign Economic Affairs of Turkmenistan, the source reports.
