Construction of New Processing Units at Turkmenbashi Refinery Nears Completion

The construction of a complex of delayed coking and tar-deasphalting units (DCU and SDA) at the Turkmenbashi Complex of Oil Refineries (TCOR) is nearing completion.

The new units are designed to process all heavy residues at the plant (tar, oil sludge, asphalt and other residual products) into more valuable light oil products (gasoline, diesel fuels) and electrode coke, the online newspaper of the Oil and Gas Complex of Turkmenistan reported on Sunday.

The DCU and SDA complex, which is being built by Westport Trading Europe Limited, will have a positive effect on the economic and environmental efficiency of the plant as it will allow to increase the production of light oil products motor gasoline, diesel fuel and liquefied gases (with further processing of liquefied gases into polypropylene), according to the report.

The complex will be equipped with the technologies that are currently under use in Russia, Europe, and the US.

In order to prepare the personnel for work in the future workshop, a technological simulator will be developed. This simulator will make it possible to train operators in "virtual" work before the complex is completed and put into operation. This approach is used to increase safety during its commissioning.

The construction of the new units started at the end of 2019 and is scheduled to be completed in 2022.
