On 29 June President Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov is celebrating his 63rd birthday. As the head of state told Vladimir Putin, explaining the reasons for his refusal to attend the Victory Parade in Moscow, this is the age of Prophet Muhammad.
On this occasion Turkmen official media outlets are publishing birthday greetings addressed to Berdymukhammedov.
The state information agency TDH has published a panegyric entitled “Khadji-Arkadag’s pathway is the people’s pathway”, which features the accomplishments of the President but its main part is devoted to Berdymukhammedov’s care about his people.
In the meantime, Turkmen nationals are holding protests in Turkey and the USA, which are timed to coincide with Berdymukhammedov’s birthday, requesting the President’s resignation.
On 26 June, 2020 a demonstration was held in Istanbul while a similar demonstration is scheduled to be held in Washington, D.C.
According to the organizers, the permit for the protest had been issued by the local authorities.
