On 2 June 2018 a telephone conversation between President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov and President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan was held.
Recep Erdoğan invited his counterpart to attend the opening ceremony of the Trans-Anatolian gas pipeline (TANAP), which is scheduled to take place next month.
Berdymukhammedov thanked the President of Turkey for the invitation. As regards his participation, this issue will be reviewed through diplomatic channels, the state information agency TDH reports.
Turkmenistan’s President also wished Erdoğan sucess at the forthcoming Presidential elections scheduled to be held in Turkey on 24 June.
The telephone conversation was held at the initiative of Turkey.
Let us recall that Turkmenistan is trying to join the TANAP project which will supply gas from Azerbaijan to Europe.
For this, a gas pipeline needs to be build along the bottom of the Caspian Sea.However, Russia and Iran are against this project referring to the threat to marine environment.
