Expert who reported about Berdymukhammedov’s death apologizes for false information

Director of the Center for Eurasian Problems Monitoring Arslan Rubayev, whose statement in Russian media outlets initiated a series of reports on the death of President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov, has refuted his statement.

“I am very happy that the reports on Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov’s death were not confirmed.I would like to apologize to the President’s family as well as all Turkmen citizens.

It turned out that the information I had previously received was denied by the same source”, Rubayev wrote on his Facebook account.

It should be emphasized that Rubayev told about Berdymukhammedov’s death in an interview to the radio station “Govorit Moskva” referring to his sources in the business community.

At the same time, with reference to its sources in Turkmenistan’s political community, the Russian Internet-based media outlet Lenta reported that President Berdymukhammedov departed to Germany to visit his mother who is undergoing a course of treatment, which had been earlier reported by “Chronicles of Turkmenistan”.

[The President] is not dead but has flown to Germany to see his mother who has been in critical condition for ten days, — he said.

It should be highlighted that in May a crew of Turkish healthcare practitioners, including a renowned anesthesiologist, urgently departed to Ashgabat. It appears that the President’s mother needed medical assistance.
