FAO Looks to Open Its Representative Office in Turkmenistan

Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Italy, Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan to Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Toyly Komekov and the FAO Director-General QU Dongyu during a meeting on Thursday at the Organization’s headquarters discussed the draft agreement between the Government of Turkmenistan and the FAO to open a representation of the Organization in the country, the Turkmen Embassy in Italy said in its press release for the media on Thursday.

At the beginning of the meeting, the envoy conveyed greetings on behalf of the Government of Turkmenistan to the Director-General and expressed Turkmenistan's intention to develop effective cooperation aimed at the use of global practices in the field of sustainable agricultural development and improving measures to maintain food security.

In turn, the Director-General noted Turkmenistan's active role in international processes aimed at protecting the environment, sustainable use of natural resources, as well as ensuring food security.

The sides exchanged views on the development and full implementation of joint projects and programs.

The FAO Director-General asked Ambassador Toyly Komekov to convey his greetings and respects to President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and the leadership of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Agriculture.
