Turkmenistan to Host International Conference on Food Security

Turkmenistan, in a partnership with the United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), will hold the international conference "Partnership for Food Security under Climate Change" on March 9-10 in Ashgabat.

The relevant Decree on the organization of the conference was signed by President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, the country’s official media reported on Thursday.

The document prescribes the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection in cooperation with the FAO to ensure the organization of the high-level international conference.

According to the document, the Decree to organize the conference was adopted with the aim of practical implementation of foreign policy aimed at developing multilateral cooperation with international partners to strengthen food security.

Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Italy, Permanent Representative of Turkmenistan to Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Toyly Komekov met with the FAO Director-General QU Dongyu on January 19 and discussed the draft agreement between the Government of Turkmenistan and the FAO to open a representation of the Organization in the country.
