FAO mission arrived in Turkmenistan

An expert mission of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) arrived in Turkmenistan within the framework of the implementation of the program “Improving the efficiency of raising small ruminants in order to reduce the intensity of greenhouse gas emissions”, reports the publication “Turkmenistan: Golden Age”.

The purpose of the visit is to conduct consultations with government agencies and visit livestock farms in Dashoguz velayat.

FAO specialists in the field of feeding, pastures and sustainable environmental management will discuss plans to optimize the industry with the relevant ministries of Turkmenistan. Particular attention will be paid to reducing greenhouse gas emissions while increasing productivity.

During the trip to Dashoguz velayat, meetings are planned with local authorities who are responsible for pasture management and livestock husbandry. Experts will also visit pastures to assess the condition of the food supply and living conditions of the animals.

Based on the results of the mission, specific measures for the implementation of the project in Turkmenistan will be determined. They will be aimed at improving feeding practices, introducing modern technologies and, ultimately, reducing the negative impact of livestock farming on the climate.

A cooperation agreement between Turkmenistan and FAO on the program “Improving the efficiency of raising small ruminants to reduce the intensity of greenhouse gas emissions” was signed in December 2021.
