Freight transit through Turkmenistan increased by 17% in 2023

The volume of transit cargo transportation through the territory of Turkmenistan in 2023 showed a serious increase - by 17% compared to 2022. This was facilitated by the country’s convenient geographical location and the development of its transit potential, reports the official website of the State Customs Service of Turkmenistan.

The positive dynamics continue this year - in the first two months of 2024, cargo transit increased by another 5% compared to the same period last year.

To attract additional transit cargo flows, Turkmenistan is constantly improving the infrastructure at border customs posts. The introduction of automated customs clearance procedures and the use of modern inspection equipment ensure the uninterrupted transportation of vehicles through border crossings.

Thanks to the favorable conditions created, the interest of international cargo carriers in transit routes through Turkmenistan has grown significantly in recent years. Since 2020, the total volume of transit cargo in the country has increased 3 times or 206%. At the same time, road transportation increased by 585%, and rail transit volumes by 104%.
