Fruit prices go up in Ashgabat

Prices for apples, bananas, tangerines and grapefruit have gone up in state-run stores of Ashgabat.

According to correspondents of “Chronicles of Turkmenistan”, last year they were sold at 6 manats per kilo and ahead of New Year holidays the price increased to 12 manats. Since 11 January they have been sold at 15 manats.

If a customer buy a kilo of bananas at a state-run store located in “Mir” market, a kilo of rotting bananas are added to the purchase at a total of 30 manats. Many customers refuse to make a purchase and leave.

Bananas were in demand as relatively cheap and nourishing food, especially for children. However, few customers are prepared to pay the current price.

All other fruit and citrus fruit (apples, tangerines and grapefruit) are sold with a limit of one kilo per customer.

On 11 January 2021, “Chronicles of Turkmenistan” reported that prices for cigarettes in Ashgabat stores are increasing weekly. The post Fruit prices go up in Ashgabat first appeared on Chronicles of Turkmenistan.
