National Leader of Turkmenistan, Chairman of Halk Maslakhaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov met with President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev in Türkiye’s capital Ankara on Thursday, the official Turkmen media reported.
The meeting was held as part of the visit of Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to Ankara to attend an extraordinary summit of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS).
During the meeting, the Halk Maslakhaty Chairman and the Uzbek President exchanged views on prospects for further development of long-term Turkmen-Uzbek partnership.
Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov highly appreciated the activities of Uzbekistan as Chair of the OTS and stated that the current summit is an important platform for exchange of views on current issues of regional agenda and elaboration of appropriate measures in the view of new emerging challenges of the time.
According to the report, the Halk Maslahaty Chairman and the Uzbek President noted the productivity of the Intergovernmental Turkmen-Uzbek Commission in terms of coordination of efforts of the parties on interaction and development of appropriate measures to achieve the goals set, and expressed confidence that the results of the commission's most recent meeting, held on March 6 in Ashgabat, will contribute to further expansion of bilateral cooperation.
Summing up the talks, the National Leader of Turkmen people Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President Shavkat Mirziyoyev expressed confidence that meeting within the framework of the OTS Summit would become another important stage in further optimization of cooperation between Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, as well as a significant contribution to strengthening the climate of trust and mutual understanding on the regional and global scales.
