Health education classes on immunization and healthy lifestyle were held in schools of Turkmenistan

In the last two months of 2023, a series of health education classes on immunization and healthy lifestyles were held in schools in Turkmenistan.

These events were organized jointly by the WHO Country Office in Turkmenistan, the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry and the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan.

20 family doctors and immunologists trained by WHO conducted classes in 30 secondary schools in Ashgabat, Balkanabat, Turkmenbashy, Dashoguz, Kone Urgench, Mary, Bayramaly, Turkmenabat and Kerki. The enrollment of students was more than 1800 people.

Children learned about important health topics, from proper hand washing to more advanced topics on the immune system, vaccinations and preventing infectious diseases. The schoolchildren were also introduced to the concept of the digital module “Immune Patrol”, developed by WHO for secondary school students.

Schoolchildren who took part in the interactive sessions received memorable gifts from WHO.

The training events were organized within the framework of the WHO-EU project.
