In 2019 prices for medications decreased by 4% in Turkmenistan

“Chronicles of Turkmenistan” continues to monitor price fluctuations for medications. Over the past three months (from October to December, 2019) the average cost of medications saw an 11% decrease.

Over the course of 2019 the prices for pharmaceuticals went down by 4% on average. Let us recall, however, that in 2018 prices for medications almost doubled.

Despite a price decrease, residents of Turkmenistan do not feel relieved and explain this by the fact that the purchase of medications hits hard in the pockets of a family budget anyway.

For instance, to treat a cardiovascular condition, a medical doctor prescribed four medications to an elderly person with a retirement allowance of 350 manats including 10 ampules of “Kartan”, 10 ampules of “Aktovegin” and 10 pills of “Kardopin”.

The total value of all medications amounts to 757 manats. Some medications can be purchased with a 50% discount in case a medical insurance is available but only inexpensive “Platifillin”, which costs 20 manats, can be sold by a pharmacy in this case.
