Turkmenistan sees a 30% price hike for medications in 2017

Throughout 2017 prices for medications in Turkmenistan’s pharmacies has steadily increased. For selected medications prices rose by 80-120% despite the fact that prices for some of them did not change.

In various pharmacies the price for the same medication may vary considerably. Moreover, many medications occasionally disappear from pharmacies and alternative drugs are offered to the Turkmen residents.

“Chronicles of Turkmenistan” obtained data from various sources to find out reviewed prices for select medications.

It should be mentioned that the article features a price increase since the start of 2017 while the prices for medications in 2016 also went up.

Let us recall that in November 2017 the list of medications that certain groups of residents are entitled to buy at discount prices was reduced from 300 to 85 items.

Moreover, the cost of medical insurance increased by 50% effective 1 November.

Starting from November, only holders of medical insurance have been able to buy medications at a discount of 20%-25%.
