India is ramping up its “lunar program” and preparing to launch its own manned spacecraft

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that in 2035 India will create its own space station, and by 2040 it will be ready to send its astronaut to the Moon, writes RIA Novosti.

The success of the recent lunar missions “Chandrayaan-3” and “Aditya L1” has inspired the Indian Space Research Organization to further explore space, in particular the Moon. The Prime Minister called on Indian scientists to begin work on a Venus orbiter and a Mars lander.

Also, later this month, India will launch its first manned spacecraft, “Gaganyaan”, with an all-national crew. The device weighs 8,2 tons (5,3 tons is the weight of the habitable capsule) is designed for a crew of three people and can dock with the orbital station.

The “Gaganyan” apparatus will have to operate in an orbit at an altitude of 400 kilometers for three days.
