It snowed in Africa

Abnormal precipitation fell in South Africa. Local residents are even happy - they play snowballs, MIR 24 reports.

The snowfall continued for several hours. In Johannesburg and Pretoria, icy conditions formed on the roads. Usually, snow can only be seen in the highlands, but this time the precipitation fell in the cities. The front of cold air masses from Antarctica is moving deep into South Africa.

As noted in a statement by the UN World Meteorological Organization, the past week was the hottest on record in the world. According to the organization, the average temperature in the world on July 7 was 17.24 degrees.

This is 0.3 degrees higher than the previous record of 16.94 degrees, recorded on August 16, 2016, the source notes.
