In the evening of 12 February, 2020 pursuant to his decree, President Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov dismissed Major General, National Security Minister Yalym Berdiev “in connection with transfer to another job”.
Сolonel Gurbanmyrat Annayev, who had occupied the post of Deputy Minister of National Security,was appointed Berdyev’s replacement.
Let us recall that during the session of the Security Council held on 22 January, 2020 Berdymukhammedov issued a severe reprimand to the National Security Minister.Following the dismissal of the Interior Minister Isgender Mulikov in December 2019 the President ordered inspecting the finances and property of the head of the National Security Ministry.
In late January 2020 sources of “Chronicles of Turkmenistan” reported the reasons which sparked Berdymukhammedov’s discontent with Berdyev’s performance.
Yalym Berdyev, who had previously occupied the position of the Defense Minister, was appointed the National Security Minister in June 2018.
