President Serdar Berdimuhamedov received Asian Development Bank (ADB) President Masato Kanda, who arrived in Turkmenistan on an official visit.
Highlighting the importance of expanding international partnerships in Turkmenistan’s economic strategy, particularly through engagement with reputable financial and banking institutions, President Berdimuhamedov noted the effectiveness of the country’s long-standing cooperation with the ADB.
Over the past 25 years, the ADB has financed several projects in Turkmenistan across sectors including power generation, infrastructure, and railways, playing a significant role in the country’s sustainable socio-economic development. Today, bilateral cooperation continues under Turkmenistan’s adopted partnership strategy.
Projects implemented through the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) program contribute to the development of the country’s economic, trade, transport, and energy systems, as well as to the training of highly qualified specialists.
Turkmenistan also places special emphasis on improving the quality of healthcare services, constructing modern medical centers, and enhancing the skills of medical professionals.
The president highlighted Turkmenistan’s support for new, more effective forms of ADB cooperation with domestic banks and the private sector, emphasizing the need to strengthen engagement in financial, credit, and advisory services for small and medium-sized enterprises.
A Memorandum of Understanding was signed on May 17 in Arkadag city between the State Committee for the Construction of Arkadag City under the President of Turkmenistan and the ADB.
The agreement opens opportunities to expand partnerships in energy, water and energy efficiency, and the use of renewable energy sources in the newly built city, developed as a “smart city.”
Further cooperation will also focus on strengthening engagement in the fuel and energy sector.
At the conclusion of the meeting, President Berdimuhamedov and ADB President Masato Kanda exchanged best wishes, expressing confidence in the continuation of mutually beneficial bilateral cooperation.
