In the British town of Seascale, located near the large Sellafield nuclear complex, a flock of wild cats appeared in whose feces the radioactive elements plutonium and cesium were found, writes MIR 24 with reference to the Daily Mail.
The number of animals, according to activists, is about one hundred. Local residents claim that Sellafield workers fed stray cats waste and allowed them to live warmly under giant steam pipes.
As a result, the animals were poisoned and mutated over time. Sellafield management rejected the accusations, saying that the “atomic kittens” do not pose any danger to people. However, activists from the group Radiation Free Lakeland insist the animals could pose a threat to human health if they end up in shelters or families.
The Sellafield nuclear complex is located in the north of Great Britain on the Irish Sea coast. It covers an impressive area of six square kilometers and is considered one of the largest in Europe. Presumably, there is a storage facility for plutonium and nuclear waste imported from other countries.
