Russian Railways Increases Freight Shipments to Turkmenistan by 73%

Russian Railways increased the volume of freight deliveries to Turkmenistan by 73% in the first quarter of 2023 compared to the same period last year, TASS news agency reported on Thursday citing the statement of First Deputy General Director of Russian Railways Sergey Pavlov at the conference "International transport and transit corridors: relationship and development - 2023”.

"Speaking of shipments with Turkmenistan, the first quarter showed steady growth. And we already see that 73 percent more cargo was transported to Turkmenistan. And if we talk about transit traffic through Turkmenistan, 3.5 times more. I am confident that these figures will only grow," said Sergey Pavlov in his speech at ITTC 2023.

The First Deputy General Director of Russian Railways noted that the Russian holding signed several documents with the Turkmen counterparts that provide for the development of transportation along the eastern branch of the North-South corridor, joint infrastructure projects and activities to improve the human resources potential, digital transformation and intensification of work in the area.

In addition, Russian Railways offered a project of a regional passenger railway express on the Arkadag-Ashgabat route at a speed of up to 140 kilometers per hour.

On March 28th, the press service of Russian Railways said that the agency and Türkmendemirýollary Agency were planning to open representative offices in Ashgabat and Moscow.
