Scientists have created a map of the meteorite treasures of Antarctica

Researchers at the Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands have created a map of meteorites hidden in the ice sheets of Antarctica. According to researchers, more than 300 thousand meteorites can be found in the bowels of the continent.

Rocks from outer space have accumulated in Antarctica for thousands of years. But since the meteorites stuck in the ice are too small, it is not possible to detect them from space.

Therefore, to create a map, scientists resorted to the help of artificial intelligence, which processed data from satellite observations of the temperature, ice, surface cover and geometry of the region.

As it turned out, all these parameters can indicate exactly where meteorites are hidden on the continent. The researchers plotted the data obtained on an interactive map.According to experts, the “treasure map” of Antarctica will be 80% accurate, informs mail.ru.
