SCO Summit Adopts Samarkand Declaration

The summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Uzbek city Samarkand on Friday resulted in the adoption of the main document the Samarkand Declaration, the Press Service of the President of Uzbekistan said in its press release.

The summit participants also adopted a total of 44 documents on cooperation in different spheres.

According to the media reports, the Samarkand Declaration identifies joint approaches to ensuring regional stability, sustainable economic development, strengthening of transport and communication links, as well as the deepening of the cultural dialogue.

The signed documents focus on safeguarding global food security, international energy security, addressing climate change, and maintaining a secure, stable and diversified supply chain.

In addition, the process of admitting Belarus as a full member of the SCO was launched, Iran signed a memorandum of commitment to join the organization, Egypt and Qatar became dialogue partners, and Bahrain, Kuwait, Maldives, Myanmar and the UAE began the procedure to acquire the dialogue partner statues.
