Stones thrown at the apartment of “Chronicles of Turkmenistan” editor’s mother

On the night of 29 October unidentified individuals threw stones at the apartment of Khalida Izbastinova — mother of Farid Tukhbatullin, chairperson of the Turkmen Initiative for Human Rights (TIHR) and editor of the website “Chronicles of Turkmenistan”.

The windows in the apartment were broken. Fortunately, Kh. Izbastinova was not harmed.

A police squadron, summoned on call, found several cobblestones and bricks on the balcony.

The previous day, in the evening of 28 October, she had her telephone switched off and there has been no connection with her so far.

Khalida Izbastinova is a retired woman of 76 y.o. For over 40 years she taught History to schoolchildren.

The editorial board “Chronicles of Turkmenistan” has no doubts that the incident is related to the human rights and journalistic activities of Farid Tukhbatullin.

Let us recall that this year the human rights defender Natalya Shabunts, and a reporter of Radio Liberty Soltan Achilova, have been assaulted.

The TIHR has notified international human rights organizations, and calls for a thorough investigation of the incident.
