Students of the IIR of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan visited the Seyitjemaleddin Mosque in Anau

Recently, teachers and students of the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan visited on an excursion the ruins of the medieval Seyitjemaleddin Mosque, which are located on the territory of the medieval settlement of Anau.

The university website reports that this trip is particularly symbolic: as is known, by the decision of TURKSOY in 2024, the city of Anau became the cultural capital of the Turkic world.

The mosque was built in 1446-1457 in honor of Sheikh Jalal ad-Dunya-va-d-din. The design of the mosque portal is unique and has no analogues in the Muslim architecture of the region: on the arch of the portal two dragons were depicted with their heads facing each other.

The ancient religious complex included four buildings: the Seyitjemaleddin Mosque, the tombstone in front of it and two large buildings with high domed halls.

The complex was destroyed as a result of the 1948 Ashgabat earthquake.

The excursion left young people with vivid impressions and a sense of pride in the centuries-old history of the country.
