On 8 June President Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov signed a decree “On pardoning of convicts on the occasion of the holy holiday Gadyr gijesi”.
Pursuant to the decree, 611 citizens were released from further serving their sentence, as well as the additional punishment in the form of imposed duty of residing in a certain place of residence.
The President last issued an act of pardon on 20 March in honour of the spring holiday Novruz.
In 2017 some 3,362 citizens of Turkmenistan and foreign nationals were pardoned by Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov in the run-up of various holidays.
The Night of Destiny, also referred to the Night al-Qadr, is a holiday celebrated on the 27th night of Ramadan.According to Islamic sources, on this night the Angel Gabriel was revealed to the prophet Muhammad to hand over the Quran. On this particular night Muslims should actively seek God’s forgiveness for the sins they committed and read the holy book.
