The UN General Assembly adopted a Resolution initiated by Turkmenistan

On May 20, 2026, the Resolution “The Role and Importance of a Policy of Neutrality in Maintaining and Strengthening International Peace, Security and Sustainable Development” was unanimously adopted during the 82nd plenary meeting of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly.

The Resolution that was developed at the initiative of Turkmenistan was co-sponsored by 47 states.The Resolution particularly emphasizes the efforts of the Government of Turkmenistan to institutionalize the dialogue on neutrality, preventive diplomacy, and peace in accordance with the principles and purposes of the United Nations Charter.

As a permanently neutral state, Turkmenistan aims to continue implementing practical steps directed to the establishment of an atmosphere of cooperation, mutual understanding, and respectful dialogue as the primary and defining condition able to ensure stability and sustainable development in the global and regional dimensions.
