Tropical hurricane “Mocha” hits south Asia

Tropical cyclone “Mocha” hit Myanmar and Bangladesh, the strongest in the last 20 years, writes rt.com with reference to the Das Erste website.

The wind speed at times reached 210 km/h. The Global Disaster Alert and Contingency Coordination System assigned the hurricane a “red” (highest) alert level.

In Bangladesh, no casualties and severe damage are reported - the authorities took care in advance to evacuate more than 850 thousand residents from coastal areas.

Falling trees and a landslide in Myanmar have killed at least five people. The exact extent of the damage is not yet clear. It is known that about 100 thousand inhabitants were evacuated from the coastal regions of Myanmar.
