On 18 August the opening ceremony of the 18th summer Asian Games, which will last until 2 September, will be held in the Indonesian cities of Jakarta and Palembang.
The Games will feature 49 sports, 28 of which are included in the official list of the Summer Olympic Games.
72 athletes have been included in the tentative application of Turkmenistan’s national team for the Asian Games.The most renowned representatives of Turkmenistan are judo players Gulbadam Babamuradova, Rushana Nurdjavova and Tejen Tejenov, weight-lifters Kristina Shermetova, Gulnabat Kadyrova and Khodzhamukhammed Toychiyev, a boxer Nursakhat Pazzyev and a swimmer Merdan Atayev, according to the news outlet “Gundogar”.
The majority of Turkmen athletes will take part in martial arts contests— kurash, jiu-jitsu, sambo and wushu. Turkmenistan athletes will not be competing in track and field athletics, shooting, volleyball, football, fencing table tennis, basketball. Moreover, only one swimmer has applied.
