Turkmen President Meets OSCE Secretary General

President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov met with Secretary General of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Helga Schmid on Thursday in Ashgabat, the official Turkmen media reports.

During the meeting, Helga Schmid presented the President of Turkmenistan with a certificate of the city of Arkadag joining the project "Development of Sustainable, Green, Climate Friendly Cities with Innovative Solutions in the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe Region" and an Ecoports certificate awarded to the Turkmenbashi International Seaport.

The OSCE Secretary General emphasized the organization’s high interest in further developing traditional relations with Turkmenistan in the interests of global peace and prosperity.

President Serdar Berdimuhamedov said that ensuring effective and sustainable transit of international energy resources has a direct impact on the well-being and prosperity of the entire region, and Turkmenistan, as an energy-rich country, is taking targeted measures to ensure international energy security.

In this regard , the Head of State stressed the desirability of carrying out specific work in the framework of the OSCE on the global market and transit of energy resources, including political, financial, technological and environmental aspects.

At the end of the meeting, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and the OSCE Secretary General Helga Schmid expressed their belief that the fruitful bilateral partnership would steadily increase and addressed good wishes to each other.

The OSCE Secretary General also held a meeting with the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

In addition, on Thursday, the opening ceremony of the new building of the OSCE Center was held in the capital of Turkmenistan.The event was attended by the OSCE Secretary General, the Head of the OSCE Center in Ashgabat, heads of diplomatic missions accredited in Turkmenitan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, the Mayor of Ashgabat and representatives of the media.
