Turkmenistan, Afghanistan Discuss Railway Cooperation

The Head of Afghanistan Railway Authority Mullah Bakht Rahman Sharafat and the Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Afghanistan Hoja Ovezov in a meeting in Kabul on Tuesday discussed railway cooperation between the two countries

The sides also considered matters related to the scholarships offered by Turkmenistan in the railway sector to Afghan students, according to the press release issued by the Afghanistan Railway Authority.

During the talks, the Turkmen envoy expressed hope that bilateral cooperation between the sides will strengthen even more.

In July this year, engineers and railway specialists from Turkmenistan arrived in the city of Akina in Afghanistan’s northern province of Balkh to resume the construction of the Akina-Andkhoy railroad section. The section is part of the Kerki-Imamnazar-Akina-Andkhoy railway which starts in Turkmenistan.
