Turkmenistan, Afghanistan to Reinforce Operation of Imamnazar-Akina Border Checkpoint

Representatives of Turkmenistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Healthcare and Medical Industry, and a number of specialized and law enforcement agencies on Monday met with the authorized representatives of Afghanistan’s Faryab province, in particular the khyakims of Andkhoy, Hancharbag, Gurgan regions and the head of the Akina customs point.

The parties agreed to reinforce the work of the Imamnazar-Akina border checkpoint, taking into account the sanitary and epidemiological standards.

During the meeting, the sides discussed current issues of cooperation related to the proper implementation of border, customs and phyto-sanitary supervision in border areas, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan said in its press release.

The issues of expanding humanitarian cooperation were also discussed during the talks. The Afghan side was pleased with the friendly gesture of the Turkmen side to provide the necessary medical equipment, according to the statement.

Turkmen Foreign Ministry earlier said Turkmenistan continues to ensure the uninterrupted operation of its checkpoints on the Turkmen-Afghan border, as well as the supply of electricity to Afghanistan in accordance with existing contracts.
