Turkmenistan and Latvia Discuss Expanding Cooperation in Logistics

The third meeting of the Turkmenistan-Latvia Transport Commission, held in Riga, Latvia on June 12-16, touched upon the creation of transport-logistics enterprises, terminals, and warehouses in Latvian ports and special economic zones, which will produce, store, process, and distribute Turkmenistan's goods in the European Union, the Baltic countries and Scandinavia, Türkmendeňizderýaýollary (Turkmen Maritime and River Transport) Agency reported on Monday.

The sides discussed the development of mutually beneficial relations and set new tasks for the further development of cooperation between the two countries. The participants of the meeting considered the possibility of further implementation of joint projects aimed at developing the transit logistics sector and expansion of cooperation.

According to the report, special attention would be paid to increasing container and intermodal freight transportation between Turkmenistan and Latvia, connecting various transit corridors between other countries of Central Asia, and developing alternative logistics routes together with TRACECA.

The Turkmen delegation presented to the Latvian side the capabilities and terminals of the Turkmenbashi International Sea Port, and invited the Latvian representatives to the Turkmenbashi International Sea Port to familiarize themselves with the capacity, modern equipment, and operations of the port.

According to the results of the meeting, the Protocol of the third meeting of the Turkmenistan-Latvia Transport Commission on the above-mentioned directions and future tasks will be signed.

Latvia has three major ports - Liepaja, Riga, and Ventspils, as well as seven smaller ports of Engure, Liepule, Mersrags, Pavilosta, Roja, Solasgriva and Skulte, located along the entire maritime border.
