Turkmenistan Offers German Businesses Partnership in Electricity, Renewable Energy Spheres

The National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, speaking at the meeting of the heads of delegations of the Central Asian countries and the German Committee on Eastern European Economic Relations in Berlin on Friday, offered German businesses a partnership in the electric power industry and renewable energy sources.

The meeting, chaired by Cathrina Claas-Muehlhaeuser, Chairman of the committee and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Claas, was also also attended by President of Kazakhstan Kasym-Jomart Tokayev, President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Japarov, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, and President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

"Taking this opportunity, I would also like to offer German business to consider working in the power industry. Construction and modernization of power plants, development of a network of power transmission lines and other projects can serve as spheres of joint efforts," the official Turkmen media quoted Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov as saying during the meeting.

According to the Halk Maslakhaty Chairman, Turkmenistan also pays great attention to the development of such areas as renewable energy sources and international cooperation in the field of hydrogen energy.

"Realizing that green energy is the energy of the future, Turkmenistan today at the national level is taking a number of practical actions aimed at promoting projects in the field of solar and wind energy," Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said.

The Halk Maslakhaty Chairman also stated the importance of interaction with foreign companies and international structures in reducing methane emissions into the atmosphere, utilization of associated gas at hydrocarbon fields.

The National Leader of the Turkmen people expressed confidence that the knowledge and best practices possessed by German companies in the above-mentioned areas will be in demand in Turkmenistan.

Speaking at the meeting, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov also reiterated Turkmenistan’s firm position on gas supplies to Europe through the construction of the Trans-Caspian gas pipeline.

Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, who is on a working visit to Berlin, on Friday also took part in a meeting of heads of delegations in the Central Asia-Germany format.
