Turkmenistan Prepares New Action Plan in Human Rights Sphere

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan on Wednesday hosted a meeting of the Interdepartmental Commission on the Implementation of International Obligations of Turkmenistan in the area of Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law discussing a draft National Action Plan in the area of Human Rights in Turkmenistan for 2021-2025.

Representatives of a number of Turkmen ministries and departments, public organizations, the Ombudswoman, as well as representatives of international organizations took part in the meeting, the official media of Turkmenistan reports.

The Interdepartmental Commission also discussed the draft Action Plan for the Implementation of International Humanitarian Law in Turkmenistan for 2021-2023, prepared by the National Red Crescent Society of Turkmenistan.

The officials also exchanged views on the strengthening of the legal framework of Turkmenistan’s interaction with the UNESCO and the OSCE.

During the meeting, a proposal was put forward to establish a Working Group on the Legal Regulation of Human Rights in the Sphere of Mass Media, Migration, Freedom of Religion and Other Spheres under the Interdepartmental Commission.

Other matters in the fields of human rights and humanitarian law were also discussed at the meeting.
