Turkmenistan Proposes Export of Its Electricity Through Iran

Turkmenistan proposed the Iranian side to start deliveries of Turkmen electricity through the energy system of Iran to third countries this year.

This matter was discussed during the talks between the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and President of Iran Ebrahim Raisi with the participation of government delegations in Tehran on Wednesday, the Turkmen official media reports.

The completion and readiness for commissioning of the Iranian part of the Mary-Mashhad high voltage power line was announced during the talks. The Turkmen side said it currently considers the start of construction of the Turkmen part of this power line in the near future.

Highly appreciating the achieved Turkmen-Iranian agreements on gas supplies through swap operation, the parties proposed to the specialized organizations of the two countries to study the possibility of swap gas exports to third countries.

On the eve of the summit talks on Tuesday, the Turkmen delegation and the Minister of Petroleum of Iran Javad Owji discussed the further development of bilateral ties in oil-gas sector, including the payment of Iran’s gas debts to Turkmenistan.
