Mahtumkuli Akmuradov, Advisor on Environmental Issues at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, spoke at the Central Asian Conference on Climate Change (CACCC 2024) on Monday in Almaty, Kazakhstan, stating that climate change issues are setting new tasks for Turkmenistan, BT correspondent reports from the forum.
Akmuradov said that these challenges are encouraging the country to modernize already adopted national plans and laws, as well as create new ones.
In his speech, the advisor added that Turkmenistan plans to conduct a review of the quantitative assessment of methane emissions in the oil and gas sector, which will serve as the basis for the development of specific measures to reduce these emissions.
Akmuradov also emphasized the priority of environmental protection issues for Turkmenistan and confirmed the country's readiness to fulfill its international obligations on this matter.
The Central Asian Conference on Climate Change (CACCC 2024) is scheduled for May 27-29, 2024.
